Bill and Mary Mathews have always followed two principles in retail business: offer quality merchandise and charge fair prices. Their third: build a destination. When they saw a need for leather bike wear in Fayetteville, they started a business that grew to fulfill their vision of quality and service. Bill and Mary started the company out of their home garage and a small trailer in 1992 and have carefully expanded over the years. Each new location has been bigger than the last – from Yadkin Rd. to Raeford Rd. to Bragg Blvd. “In the motorcycle world, it’s no longer being in a retail business,” Bill Mathews said. “Today, everybody wants somewhere to go. We are building a destination.” Their goal, to be the destination, was recently realized in March of 2006 with the building of their 10,800 sq. ft. store at 4400 Bragg Blvd. Just this year, M&M Leather and Custom Cycle has added Victory of Fayetteville and Speed Demon Bar & Grill to complement their offerings. “It’s not going to be a bar bar,” Bill Mathews said. “We want a place where you can ride up on your motorcycle, or ride up in your car, and associate with the people you want to associate with, and do it in a non-smoking atmosphere, and be leisurely about what you do.” “We have many patrons that are from out of town, and they would come and shop and always ask about local restaurants when they were looking to eat,” said Mary. “Here in our new location, the restaurant just felt right. Why not give people everything they need all in one place.” M&M Leather and Custom Cycle, Victory of Fayetteville, and Speed Demon Bar & Grill have all been a success. This can be credited to the quality of service and the high standards of the owners and staff. When you walk into the store, you are greeted with a smile and treated with respect. That makes all the difference in the world.
